As for reasons, Ratajczak has some theories. Bison tend to choose one area, eating everything up there, while leaving another

    22、 area of the prairie untouched. They also go around forming disturbances in the soil, forming holes. These are areas where they roll around and shake off their winter coats, and that creates little spots of unique types of soil features. The spots harden and collect water after rain, for example, cr

    23、eating wetlands, which allow more plants to grow. By promoting different types of plant growth, scientists believe bison could help their ecosystems become more adaptable to droughts. Millions of bison lived in the US in the mid 1800s, before the government killed the population, reducing their numb
