4、l.When the teacher said theyd take a break inside because of the rain,Fein said,“Every cloud has a silver lining.”“A silver lining?”Hazel shook her head.“Clouds are white.Maybe gray.Where do you get this stuff?”Fein felt as if the wind had been knocked out of him.Outside the window,the clouds had ro
5、lled over the sun.The room felt darker.“Bad things come in threes,”said Hazel.“No outdoor break is number one.What will be the second thing?”The class didnt have to wait long to find out.Emma was carrying a tray of paints(颜料)during art class.She tripped,and the paint went flying.There was blue on th

18、“墓地”被比作“人生后花园”。除了把“死亡”比作长眠安息外,汉语中还把“死”比作像神仙一样“仙逝”、“仙游”;或用“星陨”、“花落”来比喻伟大人物的逝世,以表达无限惋惜和崇敬之情。“墓地”被比作“人生后花园”。(二)迂回陈述法(二)迂回陈述法对于有伤大雅、令人不快的话,人们常借用迂回陈述法拐弯抹角地来表达,旨在文雅,如:We have three main difficulties with regard to those terms.“Three main difficulties”,实际上是拐弯抹角地说我们“有三点反对意见”。汉语有时为增强语意、文饰辞面或者为了达到讽刺或戏谑的目的,会运用
19、折绕、兜圈子的方式来代替直截了当的表达方式。人们不直说某人“理论水平差”,而说“理论水平亟待进一步提高”;不直说“不赞成某个观点”,而说“有待商榷”。(三)降格处理法(三)降格处理法人们对于严重的事态,有时故意轻描淡写,降格处理,以达到委婉效果。如:In private I should merely call him a liar.In the press you should use words:reckless disregard for truth.And in Parliament-that you regard he should have been so misinformed.
