Greet the students and have a brainstorm to check and r

    5、eview the prepositions of places. Step 2 Presentation 1. Show some pictures of traffic signs on the screen and teach the new words and expressions and check the students reflection of the directions. 2. Students show the hands and act, pointing to the right directions while speaking to practice the

    6、expressions turn left, turn right, go along, on the left, on the right. 3. Show different maps and guide students to learn how to give directions using the target language. First, teach the new words crossing and turning, then show the students how to guide others like this: Go along Xinhua Street,

    7、go across the bridge and turn right at the first crossing After that , practice the sentences. 4. Play a game to check if the students could give and follow the directions. Ask several students to show the cards of streets and make the hallways some streets, ask one student to give directions , the

    8、other one follow the directions and walk in the classroom according to the card signs of streets. Step 3 Pair work Show the map of our city, students work in pairs to practice asking for and giving directions. Here is the sample dialogue: A: Excuse me. How can I get to the library? B: Go along Jinxi

    9、a Street and turn right at the second crossing, then go along North Street.Its on your right, across from the hotel. A: Thank you. B: You are welcome. Step 4 Listening Before listening: Guide students to read the map in 1b carefully, ask and answer about the locations of some places on the map. Whil

    10、e listening: 1. Play the recording, students listen and finish 1b. Check place A and place B on the map. 2. Ask students to have a quick preview of 1c , play the recording, students listen and fill in the blanks to complete the conversation. If the students cant catch them easily, play the recording

    11、 again. 3. Check the answers. After listening: 1. Students read the conversation and try to recite the conversation with some sentences missing according to the map without books. 2. A pair work. Students work in pairs to talk about how to get to different places according to the map in 1b. Ask seve

    12、ral students to show the cards of the places and make the classroom a real situation of the neighborhood. Ask several pairs to show the conversation and walk to the right places in the classroom. Step 5 Consolidation and improvement A group work. Show a map of a city in Chinese from Baidu Map and as

    13、k students to work in groups to help a lost kid in the city to find the way home. They should finish the three tasks: 1. Draw the route on the map. 2. Write down the different ways to get home. 3. Tell the lost kid the way home. After working in groups, invite some groups to present their ways on th

    14、e screen and speak in front of the class. Step 6 Summary A chant. The students have a chant to summarize how to give directions. Step 7 Homework Students write down the way they get from home to school and report it in the next class.
