11、t Michael Lipsyte is an American sports journalist and author. He was born on January 16, 1938 in New York. Lipsytes father was a school head teacher, his mother a teacher. Instead of sharing a game of catching with his father, the two often visited the library and read books. One of Lipsytes childr

12、en, Sam Lipsyte, is also an author and teacher at Columbia University in New York. In the first chapter of his book SportsWorld, Lipsyte points out that he did not even attend his first Major League Baseball game until he was thirteen years old. Lipsyte says he was very disappointed with his experie

As a boy, Lipsyte did play sports, but he felt acute pressure to do better than others at sports which discouraged his interest.

The main character of One Fat Summer, Bobby Marks, is an adolescent in the 1950s. He is overweight and does something about it. In 1952, Lipsy
