    1、I used to be afraid of the darkGood morning judges, Im the No.2 candidate applying for middle school English teacher. My topic today is “I used to be afraid of the dark”. To illustrate my thoughts clearer, Im going to talk about this topic from following 6 aspects which are: teaching material, stude

    2、nts, teaching method, learning method, teaching procedure and blackboard layout.1. The analysis of the teaching material: This topic is selected from Section A, Unite 2 of 9th grade, published by PEP. The content of this topic is for the students to learn how to use “used to ” sentence. Students are

    3、 supposed to aware the right expressions to show what they used to be like. Its a communication skill for students to talk about changes freely.2. Teaching aims: I have my class planed from 3 dimensional objectives which are knowledge objective, skill objective and emotional objective. a. Knowledge

    4、aim: To make sure the students could understand the meaning of the phrase “used to” and learn antonyms. b. Ability aim: For this class is enable the students to open their mouth and talk to their friends about their changes. c. Emotional aim: The students would be able to build their communication c

    5、ircle and their self-confidence.3. Teaching important points: Based on the content and the objectives, this class will emphasis on adjectives from the angle of vocabulary and the usage of the specific sentence structure. 4. Teaching difficult points: The difficult point is to use the phrase to make

    6、sentences and use them to communicate. 5. Analysis of students As we all know that students in 9th grade have studied English for more than 2 years. Theyve had certain listening, reading, writing and speaking English skills. Its a challenge for the students to use what they have learned. On the othe

    7、r hand, encouragement means a lot to the students especially when theyre facing senior high school entrance examination. The core of teaching 9th grade students is to keep their interests in their studies by using pictures, videos so that the students are able to find out the new knowledge by themse

    8、lves.6. Teaching method: According to the physical and psychological characteristics of the students, the task-based language teaching method, practice method and situational teaching approach would be employed in teaching. The specially designed video materials would help the students to memorize n

    9、ew phrase by having fun. The students would be able to master the expressions and vocabulary by autonomic learning, problem solving and exploring. So that the learning method of todays class are pair work, group work and role play. The students could be having fun while learning.7. Teaching procedur

    10、esStep 1 warming-up The key point of learning a new language is to use it. Its the most direct way for the kids to learn is to get them involved in an English environment. So I planed to start my class with displaying a video episode selected from Friends. Its not only arousing students attention by

    11、 watching humorous American TV episode but also leading in the sentence pattern “used to ”. It is vivid for the students to feel the language environment in which they are going to master the grammar focus.Step 2 Presentation and practice The video would be played again and paused where “used to ” p

    12、attern shows in the conversation from the TV. Then the meaning and the usage of the sentence would be presented by me. The students would notice very soon that they need more words to make the sentence completed and diversified, especially antonyms like quiet vs. outgoing, short vs. tall. The purpos

    13、e of not to mention the words first is to make the students to be curious and eger to learn new words. After learning, two practices are planed. A pair work would be displayed for the students to practice sentence. The video would be played again for the students. Deskmates are required to imitate t

    14、he tone and the talking speed so that theyll be able to ask each other what they used to be like. Another exercise would be presented for the class that girl group and boy group need to go to the front and write down the anonyms for their groups. Boys words have to be match with girls. Step 3 Consol

    15、idation and Summary Students are going to be separated into four groups. They are going to come up with a conversation with “used to sentence”and antonyms then go to the front and act. As I said, the emotional objective for this class is to build students communication skills and their confidence. S

    16、o its not only a practice of the learned knowledge, but also a presentation which builds confidence. This is also a summary for this class.Step 4 Homework Todays homework is for the students to prepare a short presentation by talking about their changes. There will be chances for several students to

    17、 present on the stage.8. Blackboard layout I have my title in the top middle place of the blackboard; left part is sentence structure with cute pictures showing the context of the conversation; the right part is designed for the vocabulary.
