Its main theme is about English around the world.There are many differences of language habits even among the English-speaki

    2、ng countries. Language and culture are mutually related, language is the carrier of culture, different languages reflect different cultures. Ss will be benefited from this introduction of different language habits, because it is a greatest way to realize the real English world. Students of grade 1 i

    3、n senior high school have studied English for 6 years and grasped a certain amount of English knowledge. However, they have just moved into the senior high school English study so that their reading ability is in the level of beginner. Take this factor into account, the development of reading abilit

    4、y will be an important object of this lesson. Moreover, the topic of this unit -”English around the world” will be a little bit strange for ss, since not all of them have been to other countries before. While it may be very attractive for ss who have never been to abroad. They can know the foreign c

    5、ountries just through books.Given the analysis of teaching material and students, the teaching objectives are as follow.a) Knowledge objectivesIn consideration of the statement of new curriculum standard, compared with compulsory education period, the main object of English study has changed into th

    6、e development of comprehensive ability. Whats more, the discourse comprehension is one of the most important components of comprehensive English ability. For example, the main idea of first paragraph is that many people around the world speak English right now. Ss will be able to conclude the main i

    7、dea of each paragraph after reading the passage. The other knowledge objective is still to grasping useful words and expressions such as elevator, petrol, gas, lorry, because of., come up., etc. Additionally, some difficult sentences should be studied carefully, for instance, “So why has English cha

    8、nged over time? It was based more on German than the English than the English we speak at present.” b) Ability objectivesSince the main objective of reading course is to improve the Ss reading ability, Ill train their ability of identifying the general idea in the fast reading. In intensive reading,

    9、 their ability of information-gathering and summarizing is developed, that is to say, ss can conclude the differences between British English and American English, for example, the comparisons between everyday words: flat&apartment, lift&elevator, rubber&eraser etc. c) Moral objectivesThe world chan

    10、ges rapidly. Language, as the communicative tool, is bound to to develop quickly as well. British English is not regarded as the only one standard English any more. The text opens a new possibility for ss to learn English, not only the knowledge of language, but also the culture. It will help them t

    11、o cultivate the motherland consciousness and intercultural awareness. Most importantly, their attention to the outside world and social issues has been enhanced in their early studies. All of these are beneficial to todays teaching.On account of the above analysis, the important points are that how

    12、to make ss grasp the new words and phrases and how to improve their reading skills as scanning, skimming, information-gathering and summarizing. As to the difficult points, they are the same as the important ones. Since the new curriculum always put the skill development and language acquisition fir

    13、st. 2. Assessments of performanceIn the class, I will make assessment of sss performance in time. The teachers evaluation should be primarily formative appraisal and summative assessment will be complementary, no matter what section ss are in. For example, in the first part-Leading in, I will ask ss

    14、 questions, like “What do you know about English?”It is a divergent question which used to generate ss interests for todays topic. I will encourage them to answer this question. Whatever their answers are, they can be inspired. If I am satisfied with their performances, I will ask some questions fur

    15、ther, such as “How many countries around the world whose official language is English? ” If ss feel a bit difficult in this questions, I will give them a vocabulary pool and some background knowledge for assist. 3. Teaching planGeneral speaking, it is not difficult for the students to understand the

    16、 text, but there are some new phrases and sentences that may be a little bit difficult, for instance, “So why has English changed over time? It was based more on German than the English than the English we speak at present.” Hence before the students first reading, I will explain the new words and p

    17、hrases briefly and after reading the whole passage, I will embody the usage of the news words and phrases, and get the student understand the difficult sentences. Considering of this, the teaching methods which will be used are task-based language teaching and communicative approach, because modern

    18、foreign language teaching emphasizes that ss should be encouraged to develop effective learning strategies and autonomous learning abilities by means of experiencing, practicing, participating, exploring and cooperating under the teachers guidance. Take the activity in careful-reading part for examp

    19、le, ss have to finish the T/F exercise and retell the text based on teachers direction. As for learning methods, ss will learn through independent reading, discussing and cooperating.I will use computer and blackboard as my teaching aids. Now I will present my teaching plan step by step. The whole t

    20、eaching procedure includes 5 steps: Step I: Cultural Background, Step II: While-reading, Step III: Post-reading, Step IV: Homework.Step I: Cultural Background Because this topic has a close relationship with culture, while not all of the students have relevant knowledge, the aim of the first step is

    21、 to introduce the cultural background knowledge.First exercise is a small quiz about national flags of different countries. Ss have to figure out the languages spoken in these countries. Some of the them are English-speaking countries, so it will naturally move the the question-Do you know that ther

    22、e is more than one kind of English? In some important ways they are every different from one another. They are called world Englishes. Can you understand the different kinds of English these people are using? Teacher will show some sentences of British English or American English on ppt. Speaker1: L
