    1、1 Teaching planGeneral speaking, it is not difficult for the students to understand the text, but there are some new phrases and sentences that may be a little bit difficult, for instance, “So why has English changed over time? It was based more on German than the English than the English we speak a

    2、t present.” Hence before the students first reading, I will explain the new words and phrases briefly and after reading the whole passage, I will embody the usage of the news words and phrases, and get the student understand the difficult sentences. Considering of this, the teaching methods which wi

    3、ll be used are task-based language teaching and communicative approach, because modern foreign language teaching emphasizes that ss should be encouraged to develop effective learning strategies and autonomous learning abilities by means of experiencing, practicing, participating, exploring and coope

    4、rating under the teachers guidance. Take the activity in careful-reading part for example, ss have to finish the T/F exercise and retell the text based on teachers direction. As for learning methods, ss will learn through independent reading, discussing and cooperating.I will use computer and blackb

    5、oard as my teaching aids. Now I will present my teaching plan step by step. The whole teaching procedure includes 5 steps: Step I: Warming up, Step II: Comprehension, Step III: Practice, Step IV: Homework.Step I: Warming up In the first step, I will use a joke to break the ice.The joke will be shown

    6、 on ppt. A:Do you like moving pictures? B:Well, yeah! Why not? A:Ok! Follow me, please! B:What? A:Lets go downstairs to move the pictures! B:Oh, oh.“Moving pictures” is the old saying of “movies” in the US. It will leads directly to “go to the pictures=go to the movies”. Additionally, teacher can us

    7、e the phrases to introduce the differences between British English and American English. Ss have to guess the answers which corresponds to the British English words or American English words given by teacher on the powerpoint. Subway=underground apartment=flat lift=elevator eraser=rubber gas=petrol

    8、in a team=on a teamStep : ComprehensionText comprehension is the most important section of todays lesson. There are several parts included in this section which are language focused and comprehension focused.1) Brain-stormingTeacher will show ss a map of the world. Ss have already previewed the topi

    9、c and their previous homework was to discuss the questions listed in the pre-reading part in the book in group of four. Considering of this, ss are supposed to make reports based on their homework. 2) Reading and comprehensionThe first task is skimming. Ss will read the passage fast in silence and f

    10、ind out the main idea of each paragraph.Suggested answer:Para.1:Brief introduction of the change in English.Para.2:An example of different kinds of English.Para.3:The development of English.Para.4:English spoken in some other countries.The following task is scanning. Ss will read para.1 and 2 loud i

    11、n detail. There are some statements on the blackboard of which some are right while some not. Ss have to read them and then tell whether they are true or false. If false, they have to find out the mistake and correct it.(slides:1.Most of the English speakers in the 16th century lived in England.2.Mo

    20、nds of world English and some words from other languages in English. The activity of this step is free talk. I will ask Ss to answer the following questions what do you know about English?

    27、 How many countries around the world whose official language is English? Here, Ss will get familiar with the basic knowledge of English. My purpose of this activity is to stimulate the Ss awareness of learning English. Since the main exercise of this part is speaking and listening, ss should be able

    28、 to understand others and keep a relatively smooth communication. The pronunciation and intonation should be idiomatic. Correct Diction is another requirements of this exercise. Ss can use gestures to help to understand each other if they have difficulties in communication. Step II: While-reading Wh

    29、ile-reading is the main part and I adopt the top-down reading model. This step is divided into 2 parts: fast reading and careful reading. Before reading, I will ask the Ss to predict what will talk in the text according to the title. It can exert the Ss imagination.1) Fast readingBefore reading, ss

    30、have to pick out the key words - road and modern of this passage. They will be asked to think how to understand these two key words and how the text is organized around these key words. Afterwards ss will read the text with these two questions. After finish reading, ss will be able to answer the mea

    31、ning of road. road= way or development or processAdditionally, getting the main idea of each paragraph is required as well since it has a close relationship with discourse analysis. Usually, the main idea of each paragraph is the first sentence or the last sentence, but this text is not. 2) Careful

    32、readingAfter getting the general idea of each Para., I will deal with the details Para. by Para.In part one, I will ask the Ss to read quickly and do the exercises T or F. And if it is F, I will ask them to correct it. This exercise can help the Ss get the key information of the first paragraph in a

    33、 short time and can deepen the Ss understanding of the first paragraph.The exercises are as follow.1.Most of the English speakers in the 16th century lived in England.2.More and more people use English as their first or 2nd language.3.The US has the largest number of English speakers.4.Native Englis

    34、h speakers can understand everything because they speak the same kind of English.In part two, I will ask Ss the retell the development of English. This can help the Ss develop their ability of summarizing. If the Ss fell difficult in this part, I will encourage them to find the key sentences and try

The latter gave a separate identity to American English spelling. Only time will tell.The requirements of this reading part are that ss should be able to reading the te

    38、xt independently and choose the appropriate reading strategies, which meets the statements of English curriculum as well.Step : Post-reading Thats all for the while-reading. Now lets move to the fourth step. In this step, I will design one activity which is a group discussion. Ss will have five minu

    39、tes to discuss some questions, for example, why is it becoming more and more important to have a good knowledge of English? In which countries do we fine most native speakers of English? Ss will have opportunities to express their opinions in this activity and it is also a good chance for them to de

    40、velop the ability of communication, thinking and cooperation. Moreover, ss could cultivate the intercultural awareness which is one of the important aim of emotional objective. Step :HomeworkFinally it comes to the homework. Ss are required to review the learnt lesson and underline the useful words

    41、and phrases in the text. This one is for them to consolidate what theyve learnt and make preparation for the next lessonLearning about the Language.3.
