    1、An interesting jobGood morning, dear judges. I am candidate No. 8, applying for Junior high school English teacher. 1. Analysis of teaching materialThe text I am going to share here is An Interesting Job. It is a reading text introducing an exciting but sometimes difficult job which involves drawing

    2、 pictures based on the description of physical appearanceThe learning of the body parts and physical features can lay a good foundation for the future learning of health problems relating to body parts such as headache, sore back and hurt legs etc. Meanwhile, it can help Ss comprehend the basic use

    3、of demonstrative pronouns such as “it”, “this” and “that”, etc. Therefore Ss interest in English learning and using can be aroused and intensified. -Junior high school stage is an initial stage in which students start their formal studies of English, so the classroom teaching efficiency is particula

    4、rly important, and there is no doubt that designing the classroom teaching objective scientifically and reasonably is an extremely important work.Teaching aims:1. Ss can read and recognize the key vocabulary such as “criminal, crime, medium”,ect. They can read and understand the text introducing the

    5、 job of police artist which involves describing physical appearance.2. Ss can tell the different meanings of demonstrative proverbs with the help of the context.3. Ss can appreciate the importance of being able to describe physical appearances. They can also be inspired to attach more importance to

    6、inner beauty. Teaching key and difficult points:1. Ss can read and understand the reading text.2. They can appreciate and grasp the strategy of inferring with the help of the context. 2. Analysis of the StudentsReading constitutes the most important for Ss to gain information. Thus, the significance

    7、 of reading shouldnt be overlooked. Neither is the high level of difficulty faced by Ss while doing reading. What contributes to that may be concluded as follows: poor vocabulary and grammar, long sentences, and most importantly lack of interest and reading skills. Therefore, in my class I will come

    8、 up with a lot of interesting and meaningful activities to help Ss enjoy the process of reading.3. Teaching and learning methodsThe new curriculum standard puts such in the first place as “cultivating students interest in learning English, building self-confidence, developing good habits of autonomo

    9、us learning” to boost teaching and learning efficiency. Therefore, I will guide students from the following aspects.(1) Using question-leading method to stimulate students enthusiasm and interest in participating in class activities;(2) Using audio visual method to help students understand the words

    10、 and phrases one by one. While grasping the main idea of the dialogue, students can figure out its detailed information;(3) Using communicative method to not only help the students make a better understanding of the dialogue by talking with others but also help to exercise their ability of language

    11、expression as well as to improve their spoken English;(4) Using practice-consolidation method to enable students to use what they have learned flexibly.Now come the most important part of my presentation- teaching procedures. 4. Teaching ProceduresAs the old saying goes, a good beginning is half don

    12、e. So is a good lead in. An effective lead-in can arouse Ss interest and instantly involve them in the class learning. So in the step of lead in, I willStep 1 Lead-inI will create a situation. Suppose you see a man steal things (say purse/ cellphone) from a woman on a busy street. What could you do?

    13、 You cry out and let the woman know. Or you can take out your phone and call the police for help. Or they can simply take a photo of the bad guy. Teacher will further ask “What if you dont have a phone or camera with you at that moment?” to lead in the topic. Someone must be very happy or grateful.

    14、Can you guess who he is? Step 2 Pre-readingListening Activity 1. ListeningIn this part, I will create a situation and introduce the new friend Joe Brown. Ss will be asked to listen to the text and try to find out who is Joe Brown, what he does for a living, what his job is like. The purpose of desig

    15、ning the listening activity is to help Ss get first impression of the text. Many of them may fail to get the answers so they will be motivated to read the text eagerly.Predicting.Ss will be asked to look at the title and the text-based picture, working in pairs and try to guess why the job is intere

    16、sting and what things police artist usually do.Step 3 While-readingFirst, I will ask Ss to read the first paragraph and deal with the question raised in the part pf pre-reading. Then I will further ask them “do you think it is a difficult one or easy one?”. Next, I will ask Ss to read the second par

    17、agraph and hopefully Ss can get that being a police artist is sometimes difficult because “”People dont always see things the same way so they may describe the same person differently”. Then Ss are guided to do “Read, look, and tick”. Here I will ask Ss toy read the last several sentences. Then they

    18、 need to look at the three pictures of different people presented on the screen and tick the real criminal according to the given description. Later, some minutes will be devoted to the learning of the pronouns. Ss circle all the pronouns that they dont understand appearing in the text such as “he,

    19、it, him, this, they, he” and I help point out that they can identify what each pronoun refers to according to the context. Step 4 Post-readingDiscussionIn this step, I will ask Ss the question “Do you think good look is the only most important thing? If not, what else do you think is important too?

    20、” for Ss to discuss. Hopefully, they can be guided to point out that we should not be over concerned about outer beauty. Instead, we should pay more attention to inner beauty such as being kind, being honest and hardworking, ect. Step 5 SummaryI will encourage my Ss to summarize what they have learn

    21、t from the text. They are supposed to say they learn the interesting job of police artist and how to understand the demonstrative pronouns according to the context. Meanwhile, I will remind Ss of the importance of being able to give a detailed and correct description of physical appearance. They can

    22、 learn to appreciate the practical use of English.Step 6 HomeworkSs take a picture of their friends or family members and write a description of them including the persons physical appearance and jobs. The purpose is to enable Ss to put what theyve learnt in class into real-life use. Meanwhile, thei

    23、r writing ability can be improved through writing a short passage. 5. Blackboard designAn interesting jobJoe Brown police artistinteresting! sometimes difficultreal criminal: short, heavy old man with short black hairAt last, Id like to say something about my blackboard design. My blackboard writing is presented along with my class teaching. They perfectly complement each other, making it much easier for Ss to understand the key points of todays lesson.
