We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, my mother will push the conversation into World War 3. Shell talk about my lack of a bright future because I dont plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment, I dont want to do any job related to science, either. In fact, when I was pushed to say that I planned to major(主修) in English and communications, she nearly had a heart attack. “Why cant you be like my co-workers son?” she bemoans all the time. Her co-workers son received a four-year scholarship and is now earning 70,000 dollars a year as an engineer. I dont know what to answer except that I simply cant be like Mr. Perfect as Ive called the unnamed co-workers son. I cant be like him. Im the type of person who loves to help out in the community, write until the sun goes down, and most of all, wants to achieve a career because I love it, not because of fame(名声) or salary.I understand why my mother is worried about my future major. Ive seen my mother struggle to raise me on her small salary and work long hours. She leaves the house around 6:30 a.m. and usually comes home around 5 p.m. or even 6 p.m. However, I want her to know that by becoming a doctor, it doesnt mean Ill be successful. Id rather follow my dreams and create my own future. 24. What do the writer and his mother often talk about?A. The writers studies.B. The writers future job. C. Dinner plans.D. Wars around the world. 25. What do we know about the writers mother from paragraph 1?A. She doesnt want the writer to major in English.B. She doesnt think the writer should be a doctor.C. Shouts.C. Complains. D. Smiles.27. Why doesnt the writer follow his mothers will?A. He wants to be like his mothers co-workers son. B. He wants to find a job in his community in the future.C. He doesnt think his mothers co-workers son is perfect.D. He wants to do something he really likes in the future.C(2021 年全国乙卷)During an interview for one of my books, my interviewer said something I still think about often. Annoyed by the level of distraction(干扰) in his open office, he said, “Thats why I have a membership at the coworking space across the streetso I can focus.” His comment struck me as strange. After all, coworking spaces also typically use an open office layout(布局). But I recently came across a study that shows why his approach works. The researchers examined various levels of noise on participants as they completed tests of creative thinking. They were randomly divided into four groups and exposed to various noise levels in the background, from total silence to 50 decibels(分贝), 70 decibels, and 85 decibels. The differences between most of the groups were statistically insignificant; however, the participants in the 70 decibels groupthose exposed to a level of noise similar to background chatter in a coffee shopsignificantly outperformed the other groups. Since the effects were small, this may suggest that our creative thinking does not differ that much in response to total silence and 85 decibels of background noise. But since the results at 70 decibels were significant, the study also suggests that the right level of background noisenot too loud and not total silencemay actually improve ones creative thinking ability. The right level of background noise may interrupt our normal patterns of thinking just enough to allow our imaginations to wander, without making it impossible to focus. This kind of “distracted focus” appears to be the best state for working on creative tasks. So why do so many of us hate our open offices? The problem may be that, in our offices, we cant stop ourselves from getting drawn into others conversations while were trying to focus. Indeed, the researchers found that face-to-face interactions and conversations affect the creative process, and yet a coworking space or a coffee shop provides a certain level of noise while also providing freedom from interruptions. 28. Why does the interviewer prefer a coworking space?A. It helps him concentrate. B. It blocks out background noise. C. It has a pleasant atmosphere. D. It encourages face-to-face interactions. 29. Which level of background noise may promote creative thinking ability?A. Total silence.B. 50 decibels.C. 70 decibels.D. 85 decibels.30. What makes an open office unwelcome to many people?A. Personal privacy unprotected. B. Limited working space. C. Restrictions on group discussion.D. Constant interruptions. 31. What can we infer about the author from the text?A. Hes a news reporter. B. Hes an office manager.C. Hes a professional designer.D. Hes a published writer. DIt is believed that each individual, regardless of race or religion, has a purpose in life, and until you discover what your purpose is, you will not find true happiness, nor true job satisfaction. This doesnt mean you wont be successful. It just means you wont be happy until you are moving towards your true purpose.Unfortunately, school systems do very little to help students discover their true career. This is where online personality tests and career tests can help.Online personality tests and career tests can help you better understand what type of work you should be doing to achieve job satisfaction, happiness, and success. Personality tests are most useful in giving you insight into “how” your personality compares to others and “how” you like to work. In particular, if you frequently experience difficulty working with others, or getting their support and cooperation, a really good personality test would show you how to get along better. While personality tests are very useful at showing you how you like to work and how you like your work environment, they are not really designed to show you “what” type of work is right for you. That is where career interest tests come in. They will help you discover what your true interests are, and what type of work you will be passionate about. But back to personality tests. The most well-established personality tests are the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and the Enneagram.32. What should a person do to achieve true job satisfaction?A. Find the true purpose in life.B. Choose the best work.C. Get along well with others.D. Adapt to the work environment.33. What can online personality tests help a job-hunter do?A. Find a good job. B. Further understand himself/herself.C. Develop more hobbies.D. Change life attitudes.34. Whats the authors purpose in writing this passage?A. To present some popular online personality tests.B. To tell readers about online personality and career tests.C. To tell the differences between some popular online tests.D. To persuade people to take online personality or career tests.35. What will the writer most probably talk about next?A. The differences between personality tests and career tests.B. The similarities between personality tests and career tests.C. The reasons why personality and career tests are popular.D. The details of the two most well-established personality tests.第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Interview Dressing Tips for High School StudentsMost high school job seekers arent interviewing for professional jobs.
