15、习惯带到欧洲，进而形成了欧洲人喝茶的传统。尤其在英国，下午茶的习俗由此而生。在19世纪之前，世界各地饮用的茶叶都来自中国，英文中茶叶译为tea, 就是根据中文的音译（福建读音）。茶，是中国人对世界的重要贡献。 在茶叶的故乡中国，饮茶是一种普遍的习惯。几千年来，茶一直是中国人最喜爱的饮品。中国幅员辽阔，南北都有饮茶的习惯。因为饮茶的风习不同，甚至影响了各地不同的民风。茶与普通百姓的生活密切相关。在西方，很多重要的事情是在咖啡馆里发生的，而在中国，很多事情是在茶馆里发生的。茶馆是中国人生活中的重要场地。 唐代的茶学大师刘贞亮曾提出茶有“十德”的说法：茶可尝滋味，可以养身体，可以驱腥气，可以防疾病，可以聚生气，可以散闷气，可以促礼节，可以表敬意，可以顺心意，还可以助行道。可见，茶的用处有多么大。这不是刘贞亮一个人的看法，中国人也大都是这么看的。 喝茶，是身体的需要，也是精神的需要。口干舌燥之时，饮一杯清茗，自然透脱痛快。中医说，喝茶能医身体多种疾病，苦涩的茶叶，包括对身体极有益的成分，这已得到现代医学的证明。中国人嗜茶，在身体需要的同时，更关心精神的渴求。中国人是以茶来表达敬意，以茶来净化心灵，以茶来体会生命的意义的。
