The Road Not TakenDeveloping ideas黄色的树林里分出两条路, 可惜我不能同时去涉足, 我在那路口久久伫立, 我向着一条路极目望去, 直到它消失在丛林深处。Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler, long I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the undergrowth; The Road Not TakenThen took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claim,Because it was grassy and wanted wear;Though as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the same,但我却选择了另外一条路它荒草萋萋,十分幽寂显得更诱人,更美丽虽然在这条小路上很少留下旅人的足迹And both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.Oh, I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a signSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and II took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost(1874-1963) was one of Americas most famous poets. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry four times and was awarded the Congressional gold Medal for his works. His poetry has been praised for its natural themes, mostly set in the rural areas of New England where Frost lived most of his life, and for his colloquial approach to American language. His poetry generally has a regular rhythm and rhyme, and is easy to read aloud and remember. He often used simple settings in his poems to explore complex personal and social themes. Among Frosts best-known poems are The Road Not taken, Fire and Ice, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and Birches.1 What are the special features of Frosts poetry?Read the short introduction to Robert Frost and answer the questions.First: it has been praised for its natural themes, mostly set in the rural areas of New England; Second: it has been praised for his colloquial approach to American language; Third: it generally has a regular rhythm and rhyme, and is easy to read aloud and remember; Finally: he often used simple settings in his poems to explore complex personal and social themes.2 Have you read any poems written by Robert Frost? Share one with us!Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening 夜林畔小憩Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping hereTo watch his woods fill up with snow.My little horse must think it queerTo stop without a farmhouse nearBetween the woods and frozen lakeThe darkest evening of the year.想来我认识这片树林,尽管林主就住在邻村;却不会见我在此驻马,赏他林中漫天雪纷纷。我的小马一定很惊讶:不见有农家为何停下,偏在寒林和冰湖中间,还是一年中最暗傍晚。He gives his harness bells a shakeTo ask if there is some mistake. The only other sounds the sweepOf easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep,But I have promises to keep,And miles to go before I sleep,And miles to go before I sleep.小马摇摇身上的铃串,想问我是否又把错犯。唯一能够听到的声音,来自轻风和漫天雪片。树林很美很暗很幽深,我虽神往但有约在先,要赶多少路才能安眠,要赶多少路才能安眠The popularity of the poetThe Road Not Taken has in fact become famous, not only because of its natural style, but also because of its thoughtful insights into human nature.Symbols of the poemPaths in the wood How our lives progress and change. The choices that we face and the decisions that we need to make .“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both.”The greatest dilemmas arise from moral problems, when we are uncertain which choice result in doing the right thing.symbolize Because whether big or small, what all our choices have in common is that they lead to specific consequences. Once we make a decision, in most circumstances, there is no going back. Why do you think the writer looks back on his decision “with a sigh”? However, this sign, this wondering whether we made the right choice, is understandable.Appreciation and interpretationThe road ahead-the road through our lives-is a mixture of choice and chance. While the path we take may be a harder one to follow, it can also lead to new adventures and experiences. Nonetheless, part of the art of decision-making is learning to make the most of our decisions. Instead of looking back with regret, we should be facing our future with energy and optimism, for the choices are ours, and ours only. The two interpretations share the following points: the poem The Road Not Taken is one of Americas most famous or best-loved poems, and it is about choice. The major differences between the two interpretations are: the one in the passage interprets the poem as a call for facing the future without regret, while Roberts maintains that the poem is really about accepting the consequences of our choices.Read another interpretation of the poem and compare.1 Who s the author of the poem The Road Not Taken?
