10、 cell.With a series of experiments, we hope to image the same cells in the brain across several days, allowing us to follow each ones activity over time.To image the mouse, we attach a plastic bar to the front of its head and then secure the bar to a headmounting device on the stage under the micros
11、cope lens.We did our first round of experiments, and though we thought we were imaging the same cells each time, the analysis indicated that was not the case.Using this technique was new in our lab, and while there are scientific papers with instructions, some of the little details were lost in tran
12、slation.Despite of this, when the next round of animals was ready, we came up with a solution fast to track the tilt (倾斜) of the mouses head.We needed a way to indicate what position the mouses head was in.We needed something easy and fast to track the position.Then the idea struck: a toothpick woul
13、d be perfect.We created two mini protractors (量角器): one for updown and one for leftright.And we broke the toothpick in half and stuck the rough edge to the headmounting device.The pointy end would point to a position on our scale, one for updown and one for leftright.And just with a toothpick and a
14、bit of superglue, our problem was solved.In any biology lab, you may see an object as common as a toothpick next to or even attached to a very expensive piece of equipment.Keep in mind, next time you need a quick fix, there is probably something as common as a toothpick that can turn failure into su
