    6、 slave lived in a vagabonds life in the mississippi river,and propagandizes the idea that everyone enjoys the rights of freedom regardless of race.Being generally regarded as a boys story,the book is all about Tom and his gang.While spending a summer with Aunt Polly in a drowsy Mississippi River tow

    7、n,Tom and his buddies Huck and Joe take a series of adventure there. They witness a horrible murder committed by Injun Joe. Finally,Tom returns to school and become a hero at the trial of Muff Potter when he reveals Injun Joes guilt. When Injun dies,his treasure is divided between Tom and Huck,who i

    8、s now adopted by Widow Douglas.Twain had made Tom the hero of American boyhood,and the book had become the classic read in schools.By telling this story, Twain fulfils his and other adults dreams of ideal boyhood. All the cruelties and fears,wonders and joys of childhood are brought into vividness.

    9、The novels main character Tom is a mischievous boy with a great imagination who spends most of the time getting him in trouble.Tom has a kind heart and respects other peoples feelings.He becomes more and more mature as the story progresses.Huck is Toms best friend and fellow adventurer.     10、 his drunken father,he lives on his own and by his own rules.Huck is very laidback and independent.Most adults disapprove of him and other children envy him for his freedom.Polly is Toms aunt and guardian.Aunt Polly is a nice lady but she can be mean and strict at times.Overall, Aunt Polly just want

    16、lofty subject. That said, one of the most impressive aspects of his writing is the dialogue. Rather than try to describe it, well give you a taste. Tom, having just barely survived an encounter with Injun Joe the night before, goes to talk with Huck:Hello, Huck! Hello, yourself.“ Silence, for a minu

Dog d if I dont,Huck.(27.4-8)Twain renders the rhythm of the speech beautifully, using contractions and slang to give life to Tom and

    18、Hucks speech.Small touches,like the wed a and dogd go along way toward making them sound like real boys.Even that bracketed pause speaks volumes. Without suitable dialogue,all of Twains observations and remarks would be like a cake without icing:still delicious,but not quite right.Humorous,KnowingAl

    19、though The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is by no means an autobiography,Twain is most definitely writing from life experience.He sounds likewell,a fifty year-old man looking back at his childhood,and forming a narrative out of his memories.Memories of his youth in Missouri,of childish behavior and juven

    20、ile fantasies;these are Twains raw materials.In retrospect,Twain can coax the humor out of adolescent foibles,and his insights into the strange and sometimes contradictory psychology of Tom and his compatriots contributes both to the truth of his depictions and their humor.Theme:Freedom leads to responsibility and can have negative consequences.SubTheme:People who are respected in society dont always deserve it.Its human nature to be drawn toward those who have money and power.
