It held week long camps all through the summer and my grandma who I lovingly called Nanny worked in her big kitchen. I remember slipping there getting a smile, a hug, a ki

    10、ss and a hot roll from Nanny. Then she would always take deep in her pockets and pull out a treasure, a shiny quarter. She would give it to me and I would run down the hill to either get an ice cold can of coke from the pop machine or I would head to the camps swimming pool where I could buy a warm

    11、cup of cherry coke for 15 cents and a tiny 10 cent bag of chips from a stand. I took my time because it was always a big decision. It was nice too feeling so rich for a few minutes. Looking back now I can see that the real treasure was not the quarter at all. It was the love with which Nanny gave it

    12、 to me. I would have still visited her at work every day if I had never gotten a single quarter. It was her smile, hugs, and kisses that were priceless in my heart then and now. The old saying is true, With your work you can make a living, but it is with your love that you make a life. You can alway

Although people who humblebrag think it will make them more likeable because they arent talking proudly about their victories, a study published in the Journal of Personality and Soc

    19、ial Psychology showed that humblebragging actually has the opposite effect. Humblebragging doesnt have the intended result because it seems insincere. That poor me attitude combined with self-promotion does not lead to a favorable impression, said Ovul Sezer, the lead author of the study and an assi

    20、stant professor of organizational behavior at the University of North Carolina, US. Even simply bragging or complaining is better, because at least those messages are seen as more sincere. Sezers study also found that nearly 60% of humblebrags were complaint-based humblebragging, with most people hu

    21、mblebragging about their looks, followed by their money or wealth, and finally about their performance at work. Its such a common phenomenon. All of us know some people in our lives, whether in the social media or in the workplace, who do this annoying thing, commented Sezer, adding that we all do i

    22、t to some extent. So, if you want to share your achievements with others, whats the best way to do it then?Sezer suggests that people admit their self-promotion and harvest the rewards of being sincere. She also suggests finding a go-between, adding, If someone brags for you, thats the best thing th

    29、e documentary Default World, I spoke to a lot of people about their experience of technology. Many said they were trying to spend less time online, taking a break from Facebook, and connecting only when they needed to. And they spoke with pleasure of rediscovering the physical world around them and

    30、the world of human-to-human communication. I think this is encouraging. We are still learning how to be on the Internet, what effect this huge network of computers a network we have built ourselves has on our sense of self. We are at the moment, as Thoreau said of people in the industrial revolution

    31、, tools of our tools. Disconnecting gives us a chance to turn the tables to see the Internet not as something that overwhelms(使不知所措)us but as a tool, which we use when we need it. Only then can we really understand who we are and what we can give the world. And that, deep down, is the real tool of o
