In an age when our books, films, and photographsare all going digital, there is something popular about having a growing collection of books in thehome. Perhaps the

Celebrated onthe 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40-day period leading up to Easter), Mothering Sunday honored themothers of England.During this time many of the Englands poor people worked as servant

    17、s for the wealthy.17On Mothering Sunday the servants would have the day off and were encouraged to return homeand spend the day with their mothers. 18As Christianity spread throughout Europe the celebration changed to honor the MotherChurch-the spiritual power that gave them life and protected them

    34、ion, too, like if your joke didnt get a laugh, if noone remembered to save you a seat at the lunch table, or if the person you really like talks toeveryone but you. Rejection hurts. But its impossible to avoid it altogether. The only thing we6should do is to learn to handle it. 31. So how can you bu

    35、ild that ability?Be HonestAbout Your FeelingsIf you get rejected, admit how intense your feelings are. Dont try to brush off the hurt orpretend its not painful. Then, move on to name what youre feeling. For example: “I feel reallydisappointed that I didnt get chosen for the school play. I wanted it

    36、so badly and I tried so hard. Ifeel left out because my friends made it and I didnt.” 32.Examine Your Thought SoundtrackWhen you are rejected, its natural to wonder, “Why did this happen?” When you give yourselfan explanation, be careful to stick to the facts. Tell yourself: “I got turned down for p

    37、rom becausethe person didnt want to go with me.” Dont tell yourself: “I got turned down because Im notattractive” or “Im such a loser.” 33 . Next time, if put-down thoughts start creeping into your mind,shut them down.34Arejection is chance to consider if there are things we can work on. Its OK to t

    38、hink aboutwhether theres room for improvement or if your goals were higher than your skills. 35. But if youapproach it right, it could help nudge you in a direction that turns out to be the perfect fit for yourtalents, personality, and all the really great things that make you who you are.AAcknowled

    39、ging feelings helps you move beyond painful emotions.BThis kind of thinking crowds out hope and a belief in ourselves.CBe Patient When Rejected.DDwelling on the negative feelings can feel like living the experience over and over again.E.Sometimes a rejection is a harsh reality check.F.The better we

    41、tham believed that all sources of pleasure are of equal quality, but JohnStuart Mill disagreed. Mill argued for a difference between higher and lower pleasure.37Lowerpleasure, in contrast, requires mere (仅仅的;纯粹的) senses.The entire debate assumes a clear divide between the physical and the mental.38W

    42、hat will it7mean for our ideas about pleasure?39Food is usually considered to be the lower pleasure.All animals eat, using the senses ofsmell and taste. That is, Animals feed; man eats; only the man of intellect(才智)knows how to eat.Eating shows that the difference between higher pleasure and lower pleasure is not what youenjoy but how you enjoy it.40 Preparing it using the powers of reflectio
