He went to his room and opened his drawer, but the drawer was empty. “Mom, where are my socks?”Arthur called. “There werent any socks in your hamper, so I didnt wash them,” Mom said. Arthur felt unhappy. Now his feet would be cold, unless he wanted to wear dirty socks from the floor

    6、. He decided to stay barefoot. When it was time for bed, Arthur said good night to Mom and turned to go upstairs.     10、wondered how people would react if I tried to approach a complete stranger for help in a busy place like a street corner or in a bustling mall. I personally have always hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention in a busy place or when I am rushing around. Yesterday I had a taste of bei

    11、ng stuck in such a desperate situation where my only hope of help would have to come from a complete stranger. I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage. After the purchase in one of the large, fancy, expensive shops, I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting

    12、in the parking lot and my phone was dead. I then requested the shop assistant who had just sold me the luggage, which was not cheap at all, if she could ring the number of my driver for me. She replied, still all smiles, “Im sorry sir, but it is the shop policy that we cannot use mobile phones while

    13、 working in the shop.” As I was wondering what kind of policy that was, I saw a nicelooking teenage boy coming toward me. Remembering my wifes interesting theory that beautiful people are more likely to give you a hand when youre in trouble, I thought I might have a chance. But before I could say a

    14、word, he walked past me. It turned out he simply didnt see me. I waited a bit longer in the mall but it seemed nobody bothered to look at me. Disappointed and tired, I got out of the shop on to the busy street in front. I stood there with people rushing by, looking at their faces to see if there was

    15、 a sign of kindness on their face. I began wondering how many times I had reacted to strangers like the shop girl and the teenager. At that point I saw a young mother with her two kids. _ _ _ Finally a man wearing a cheap Tshirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. _ _ _ One possible version: At tha

After reaching there, they realized that there was space only for one person. At that very moment, the husband pushed his wife behind him and jumped onto the lifeboat

    21、 himself, leaving his wife standing on the sinking ship, shouting something desperately to her husband eyes filled with tears.” The teacher stopped her storytelling and asked her students, “Guys, guess what it was that she shouted.” Most students answered. “I hate you!” After listening to all this r

    22、eply, the teacher glanced through the whole class again and noticed that there was a boy sitting silently throughout. Then she asked him the same question.
