Vocabular y litter, bottom, fisherman, coal, public, ugly, advantage, cost, wooden, plastic make a difference Period1 Procedure Lead-in Let Ss watch a video about: the earth song. Step 1 Free talk. After watching the video, let Ss talk about the questions: 1. What could you get from the song? 2. What do you think of this song? Step 2 Show Ss some pictures about different kinds of pollution and ask Ss to look at these pictures and then tell with the partner what they will think about. Step 3Discussion. What kinds of pollutions do you know? What caused these pollutions? Step 4 Show Ss some words and then ask them to read these words and put them into the related pollution. Step 5 List the reasons of pollution and then give more reasons that you know. Step 6 Ask Ss to listen and complete the sentences. Step 7 Listen again and answer the questions. Step 8 Pair works. Ask Ss to role-play the conversation with your partner by using the information in 1a. For example: Mark: The river was dirty. Even the bottom of the river was full of rubbish. Tony: But it used to be so clean! Mark: Yes, but people are throwing litter into the river. Tony: Everyone in this town should play a part in cleaning it up! Step 9 Listen to the conversation and find the kinds of pollution they talk about. Step 10 Let Ss to listen again and answer the questions. Step 11 Ask Ss to complete the sentences with the given words and meanings. Step 12 Pair works. Ask Ss to role-play the conversation with their partner after the example. For example: Jason: The air has become really polluted around here. Im getting very worried. Susan: Yes, I used to be able to see stars in the sky. Jason: The problem is that Step 13 Pair works. Show Ss more pictures about the pollution and then ask them to talk about the picture with the information in the example. Step 14 Ask Ss to listen to the conversation and answer the questions. Ask Ss to have a discussion about the question: Can you find the solutions mentioned in the conversation? List them. What else ways can you find to solve the problems? Try to talk with your partner. Step 17 Show Ss some pictures about the ways of environmental protection and then ask them to have a free talk. Step 18 Brainstorm. Introduce to Ss the background about two events: the earth day and the earth hour. Step 19 Language points: explain the key words and phrases in section A-1.
