It is about the environmental problem and the ways to protect the environment, esp, the creative ways of “rethink, reuse, recycle” the waste. The whole class has seven steps: greeting, warming up, pre- reading, while reading, post reading, summary and homework. In the activity of warming up, students were very active while looking at the pictures on PPT in talking about what we should do to help save the earth and make our earth healthy and beautiful. Students showed great interest in the next two pictures of “Do you know what they are made of?”. They wanted to know what the next is. It helped walk into reading very much. In pre reading, though they have known about the reading skill of predicting the main idea of the passage depending on the title, the pictures given in the passage and have used it sometimes, it was kind of hard for most students to get to the teaching aim. In while reading, students did a good job. They finished the reading tasks very well depending on the chart and mind maps. The teacher and students had really nice cooperation, and so did they themselves. Not only did they get better understanding of the passage, but also they knew more about the key expressions and used them freely, esp, the different tenses, the passive voice, the modal verbs in reading activities. In post reading, most students could be active in this step. They had very good cooperation in the activity in groups of four. They showed many different ways to save resources, reduce pollution and save endangered animals, esp some good students were really clever and creative in class. In a word, we reach the teaching aims that we have expected in this period and finish the teaching tasks successfully. But look back at the whole class, I find it still has some steps that should be re- planned and improved to make the class more fluent and perfect, such as learning key expressions in while reading and the activity in post reading. When we finish talking about “House Parts”, we can go on dealing with paras3.4 by giving some key words concerned and asking students to retell how Jessica Wong made bags out of “waste” and Wang Tao made art pieces. Key expressions can be learnt and dealt with in next period. Because I could not control the teaching time effectively, there was not enough time to be used to complete the activity in post reading. This teaching step was over in a hurry. It can not get to the expected teaching effect. Besides, some parts in the activity have been talked about in the step of Warming up .It is better to connect it with the passage closely. To take the students reality into consideration, its better to design the activity like this: Talk about our school environment. What environmental problem? How to solve it? And at the end of the class, design it as one of homework: Write a letter to our school headmaster according to the Result of the activity in post reading. Live and learn! As a teacher, it is still a long way for me to look ahead to the future. I will try harder!
