Teaching Procedures: Step I Greetings Step II Revision and warm-up i.Look at the title, ask Ss to read it together. Say, How delicious the mooncakes are! Say, I wonder whether you like mooncakes. Step III Lead-in T: In Section A, we have known many festivals such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Water Festival and so on. Whats your favorite festival? S1: T: Why do you like it best? S1: T: My favorite festival is Halloween. Because I think its interesting. First, lets listen to some music. Play the video. Present the festival : Halloween. Say, This is my favorite festival. Its Halloween. How do you spell Halloween? Ss: T: Let me tell you something about it. Halloween is a very popular festival in western countries. But in China we dont really celebrate it. People in western countries usually celebrate it in October. From the picture ,we can see Halloween is a scary but interesting festival. Right?(Write the words on the Bb) Step IV Presentation T : Let me tell you something more about it. On Halloween, the first thing that people usually do is to decorate their houses. How do they decorate their houses? By making their houses look scary. Show three houses pictures to present the new words: haunted house, spider, bat, witch, ghost. T: The second thing that people usually do is to decorate themselves. How do they decorate themselves? By dressing up. Some people usually dress up as ghosts/some scary animals/black cats/cartoon characters. T: Black cat is a symbol of Halloween. Another symbol of Halloween is a mask. Show pictures to present: mask, costume party, jack-o-lanterns, candies and treats, trick or treat. Ask, Do you know what is “trick or treat”? Say, “Trick or treat” is the most important activity of Halloween. After children dress up, they usually carry their jack o-lanterns to knock at their neighbors doors and say “trick or treat.” Their neighbors will open the door and give them candies or some small gifts. This is “trick or treat.” That means if you dont give me some treats, Ill play a trick on you. Step V. Consolidation i. Read the words and expressions after the T. Then read together. ii. Finish1b. Ask Ss to listen to the recording twice to answer the questions. Ask them to try to get the main idea of it. Then check the answers. iii. Finish 1c.Ask Ss to listen to it again and fill in the blanks. Ask them to try to listen for just the key words. Then check the answers together and ask the Ss to read the sentences together. iv. Turn to P135.Ask Ss to read after the tape. And then read it together. Step VI Practice i. Read the example conversation with the whole class and read another one after one after the T. Give Ss two minutes to practice the conversation in pairs, and act out their own conversations. ii. Then give Ss another two minutes to talk about other festivals Later, ask some pairs to present their new conversations. iii. Emotional education : In a year ,we have many festivals. But when we celebrate these festivals, dont forget to show your thanks and love to the people around you, such as your mother, your father, your teacher or your friends. Step VII Summary In this period, weve mainly learned how Americans celebrate Halloween through some listening and speaking practice. And we also developed our listening and speaking skills.
