Theyre about 9 or 10 years old. Theyre always active and energetic. Theyre full of curiosity. They show great interest in English and dare not make mistakes. They like competitions and various interesting classroom activities. Theyve just learned English for more than one year. Before this lesson they have learned some vocabularies about describing peoples appearances and characters. Besides, they have learned some simple expressions of describing people, such as, “He has glasses and his shoes are blue.” However, their vocabulary and sense of the language is still limited. They learn English mainly by imitating and thinking of image. Most of them have built up good English learning habit, but they still havent mastered good learning methods. And they cant write a composition by themselves. Therefore, this lesson focuses on introducing family members characters and appearance, as well as helping students write a composition in class. Analysis on Teaching Material This lesson is the sixth period of Unit 6. The language function item of this lesson is describing family members. Its a lesson focusing on revision and writing. In this lesson, teacher creates a new interesting situation to activate students background knowledge. Teacher also provides many chances for students to practice the words and patterns before their writing. There are some kinds of activities, such as chants, songs, games, pair work and group work, which make this lesson more interesting and effective. 2 Teaching Contents 1. Revision of some words and expressions that describes people. 2. Writing: My family. Teaching Goals 1. Communication goals Students can master the vocabularies and sentence patterns in describing people. Students listening, speaking, reading abilities, especially writing ability can be cultivated. Students can gain some writing skills. Cultivate students ability of cooperation. 2.
