Enjoy a video to lead in the topic. T: What is it about? S1: Its about Chinese f

    3、estivals. 2.Ask and answer about the Spring Festival. T: Great! But among all the Chinese festivals, which one is the most important in China? S2: Its the Spring Festival. T: I agree with you. We also call it Chinese New Year. So what colour do you think the Spring Festival is? S3: Its red. T:Yes, w

    4、hat red things of the Spring Festival do you know? S4: Red paper-cuttings. S5: Red clothes. S6: Red couplets. S7: Red packets. Ss: . S8: Red firecrackers. T: Excellent. (Learn the new word: firecracker with the pictures) All of you are right. So (read together with students): People use red things a

    5、nd light red firecrackers at the Spring Festival every year. However, children, why do people use so many red things at the Spring Festival? S1: Red things have good meanings such as “get-together”. T: Maybe! S2: Red things can drive away the monster: Nian. T: Oh? Really?! Lets see a video to see th

    6、e reason. 3. Enjoy a video to see why people use red things at the Spring Festival. T: Now you know the reason: why? Ss: Nian is afraid of the colour red. / Red things can drive away the monster: Nian. 4. Look and say (Look at the picture of Nian and try to describe him) T: Look at the picture of Ni

    7、an. Is it a lion? Ss: No. It is a monster. T: What does Nian look like? S1: Its face is blue. S2: Its mouth is big and its teeth are sharp. T:Yes, is Nian beautiful? S3: No, Nian is ugly and scary. T: This is Nian. Lets read the story of Nian. Step 3: While- reading: story- learning 1. Read and numb

    8、er the sentences 1-4. ( Students read the whole story quickly and try to understand the main idea, and then number the sentences 1-4 with the help of key words and pictures.) 2. Read Part 1 & 2 and underline the answers to the questions in pairs. ( Students read Part 1 & 2 carefully in pairs and try

    9、 to underline the answers to the questions. Students try to understand the details of the story by answering the questions.) Q: Where does Nian live? What does Nian do at the end of every year? What is Nian afraid of? 3. Look and say ( Students describe Nian completely with the help of the picture a

    10、nd key words.) 4. Compare and say ( Students look at two pictures of Nian, and try to compare and find out the differences.) T: Look at the two pictures of Nian.Are they the same or different? Ss: Different. T: How are they different? S1: In Picture 1, Nian is scary. In Picture 2, Nian is afraid. T:

    11、 Yes, you have bright eyes. But why? 5. Read Part 3 & 4 and find the answers to the questions in groups. ( Students read Part 3 & 4 carefully in groups and try to find the answers to the questions. Students try to understand what happened by answering the questions.) Q: When does the story happen? W

    12、hat does Nian do on that day? 6. Read the story aloud and try to retell it according to the blackboard. 7. Summary: (Enjoy more pictures of the stories of Chinese festivals and try to talk about them.) This is the story of Nian. Its about the most important Chinese festival in China- the Spring Fest

    13、ival. There are many famous and traditional Chinese festivals in China. They all have a long history. There are different stories of Chinese festivals. Step 4:After- reading: Extended reading Book reading: students read the story of Qu Yuan with the reading strategies they learnt in class. Then try

    14、to finish the mind map of the story. Step 5: Conclusions T: Chinese festivals are traditional and famous not only in China but also abroad. There are many interesting stories about them. The stories can help stimulate our interest of reading, and help us know more about the festivals. So children, please enjoy the fun of reading, enjoy Chinese festivals and love our own colourful cultures. Step 6: Homework 1.Read the story of the Chinese festival you like. 2.Make up the mind map of the story.
