Part B I. The analysis of the teaching contents: The topic of this unit is “ What can you do? ”. Such a topic is related to our daily life, so it is helpful to raise the Ss learning interests. This section is the first part of this unit. In this lesson, the main point is to get the main idea of this dialogue and try to ask and answer the question “What can you do?” . If the Ss can learn it well, it will be helpful to make the Ss learn the rest of this topic. II. The analysis of the students: The students in Grade 5 have learned English for more than two years. They can understand many words and some difficult sentences. They have strong interest and confidence in studying English now. Besides, they can do well in group work, which is helpful to finish the survey part. III. Teaching aims and demands: By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to A. Ability aims: 1. listen to the tape and choose the right picture according to the tape. 2. use the sentence pattern “What can you do? I can .” to ask someone if he/she can do something in real situation. 3. develop the ability of cooperation. B. Knowledge aims: 1. understand and say the new word phrases: sing English songs, do some kung fu, play the pipa. 2. get the main idea of the dialogue and do the role play. C. Emotional aims: 1. get to know different forms of recreational activities. 2. be willing to take part in different recreational activities and enrich their school life. IV. Teaching key and difficult points: A. Teaching key points: 1. Understand the word phrases: sing English songs, do some kung fu, play the pipa . 2. Get the main idea of the dialogue and do the role play. B. Teaching difficult points: 1. Understand the phrase “next Tuesday”. 2. Use the sentences in real situation. V. Teaching methods: Communicative Approach, TPR, Situational Approach, Multimedia Approach. VI. Teaching time: 40 minutes VII. Teaching aids: word cards, tape recorder, CAI VIII. Teaching procedures: Step1 Warm-up/ Lead-in 1. Greetings. 2. Guessing game. Present some sentences about the teacher, Ss can guess whether they are true or false. Then ask the Ss “ Can you .?” or “Who can .?”. 3. Watch a short video and answer the question “What can he do?”. Step 2 Presentation and practice 1. Present several pictures about different parties and lead in the topic “ The students will have an English party. ”. 2. Listen to the tape and find out “ When is the party?”. Help the Ss to understand the meaning of “ next Tuesday”. 3. Watch the video and find out “What can Mike do for the party?”. 4. Present two questions: “Can ZhangPeng draw pictures for the party, too?”, “How about John?”. Ss watch the video and answer the questions. Meanwhile, teach the new phrases “sing English songs”, “do some kung fu”. Invite some Ss to do the actions. 5. Ss read after the tape and do the role play. 6. Watch a short video and find out “What can ChenJie, Zip and Zoom do for the party?”, teach the phrases: play the pipa, play the erhu, play the guzheng. Step 3 Production 1. Lets chant. 2. Read a picture-book “Christmas Party” together. 3. Do a survey. What can you do for our schools English party? 4. Show time. IX. Homework Finish the application of the club you want to join. X.
