Because the Carnival was in the air. “No wonder” is employed to show that this happy occasion is so grand that it is natural for people to take a week off for this holiday. 9、Carnival for myself, I went to a street party. What is “the spirit of Carnival”? The Carnival is a time of passion, friendship, trust and freedom. Appreciation 3. Then there was an explosion of colours and lively music, and the group jumped into action. With the two phrases used here, what does the

10、author want to show? The word explosion is used here to describe the abundance of rich colours and lively music. An explosion is usually sudden and powerful and the start of the street party is such. “Jumped into action” adds to the suddenness and powerfulness of the street parties. Appreciation 4.

11、I was so caught up in the party fever that I hardly noticed five hours fly by! What does the “fever” mean here? “Fever” here means “great interest or excitement about something”. The author was so absorbed and interested in the party that he failed to notice that five hours had passed. Appreciation
