A group named Eco-Soap Bank collects used soap from hotels and turns it into new bars to give out for free. Samir Lakhani, an American student, started this project four years ago. Its the oldest family magic shop in the world. You will find it at Charing Cross underground station. It is open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm from Monday to Friday, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, and closed on Sunday and public holiday. watched a mother bathe her baby using detergent*. He learned that many people in Cambodia are very poor and dont have soap. He wanted to help solve the problem. Samirs idea was to recycle old soap. Each year, millions of tourists visit Cambodia. Many hotels use large amounts of soap. A hotel can produce about 68 kg of soap waste every month. So Samir went from hotel to hotel, asking them to donate used soap. His project grew. It later became the Eco -Soap Bank. The group takes used soap to recycling factories. There, the soap is cleaned, then cut up, mixed together and put through a press*. Soap waste becomes brand- new bars. Then they are given out to local schools and some charities. So Cambodians can get them for free. The project has helped half a million Cambodians get better hygiene. But Samir has a bigger plan. He wants to start Eco-Soap Bank in every tourist area around the world. All in all, he wants to help people take their health into their own hands - one bar of soap at a time. 49. Which of the following statements about Samir is true ? A. He started his project five years ago B.He is from the US C.He lives in Cambodia D.He gives out soaps for money 50. Which is the correct order according to the passage ? a.He went from hotel to hotel b.He visited Cambodia c.He watched a mother bathe her baby d.His project grew e.He learned many people are poor A.c-e-d-b-a B.b-c-e-a-d C.b-a-c-e-d D.c-d-a-e-b 51. The underlined word “ hygiene” in paragraph 5 probably means_. A.卫生 B.条件 C.环境 D.健康 52. What do you think of Samir ? A.honest B.silly C.helpful D.modest C Do you know about bioplastic*? It is a kind of plastic. But it is different. Normal plastic is made from chemical materials and takes a very long time to degrade*. But bioplastic is good for the environment. It is made by using bacteria* to process*natural sources like vegetable oils, corn or sugar. It can degrade more easily. But there is a problem with bioplastic. The food” that bacteria eat is also what we eat. This means that bacteria are competing against humans for the same resources. Now scientists have found a new way to make bioplastic- using two kinds of bacteria and sunlight, according to Newsweek. One of the bacteria is called synthetic cyanobacteria*, which can use sunlight to produce sugar. The other kind is Halomonas boliviensis* , which lives in the salty waters of Bolivia. It eats the sugar that the first bacteria produce and then it can produce polymers*. Polymers are used to create bioplastics. The way the bacteria store polymers is similar as humans store fats. Producing bioplastic with these two bacteria has many advantages. It is 20 times faster than the nomal way we produce bioplastic. Moreover, using these two bacteria saves resources. Firstly, producing large amounts of bioplastic requires corn and sugar, which are used to feed normal bacteria. And growing corn and sugar needs farmland .But these two special bacteria can just use sunlight. The land that is saved can be used to grow food for humans. Besides, this system doesnt need rich land or clean water at all, scientists said to Newsweek. The next challenge scientists face is that they want to put their lab research into real-world practice. By doing this, bioplastic made with these two bacteria can be widely produced in the future. 53.Bioplastic is_. A. Made from chemical mateial B. harmful to the environment C.used to produce things like oils D. able to degrade more easily than normal plastic 54. Which is NOT needed to make the new bioplastic? A. Corn. B. Synthetic cyanobacteria C. Sunlight. D. Halomonas boliviensis, 55.When using this new way to produce bioplastic,_. A. we need only 20 minutes to get bioplastic B. we can save resources for our own use C. we need to provide clean water D. we have to do it inside a lab 56. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Bacteria can be environmentally friendly B. Bacteria are competing with humans. C. Scientists invented bioplastic and helped save resources. D. Scientists introduced a new way to fight bacteria. D A recent study shows that more than half of parents in England do not talk to their children about whether feeling sad, worried, nervous, lonely or stressed in their daily life. More than 1,100 parents were asked in the study, whose children are all aged between 6 and 18. 55% of them had never talked about the subject. Many parents said it was because they didnt know what to say. Almost half of parents said they felt they did not need to have the conversation because mental* health was not a big problem. But a report from the study says that children may have mental health problems at the age of four. Scientists and doctors suggest that people should not be shy away from the subject. A new research from Time to Change has also shown that more than two thirds of head teachers were worried about their pupils mental health. The problem stops young people from doing everyday things such as going out with friends, attending school and some other social activities. About 25% pupils have also said that the problem has made them want to give up on life. Emma, 20, experienced mental health problems in her early teens. Her mother, Nadine Peacock said that parents of other children at the school firstly understood her, but then avoid her. “I felt quite let down by people. They were quick to judge* without asking me about what was really going on. We all felt shame of it, she said. Daniela Beck, 19,said she started to experience mental health problems at the age of 12. “Some of my friends thought I was strange. They would say things like, “Why are you crying? Nothing is wrong with you!” These words made me feel even lonelier, she said. Making mental health a part of everyday conversation can make it easier if there are problems. You probably cant solve or change anything, but giving your child and your friend space to talk, without a fear of being judged, can really make a difference. Talking about mental health can be hard for young people, for teachers, and for parents- but often it is a first step towards greater understanding. 57.You can read this passage in a(n)_. A. advertisement B. newspaper C. guidebook D. novel 58. The example of Daniela Beck is given to show_. A. the students are not friendly to each other B. the stress often comes from your own friends C. people with mental problems are easy to become angry D. wrong communicating is harmful to pe

57.You can read this passage in a(n)_______________.
