Elephants like to live in groups. They run 18 to 20 hours a day and sleep only 2 to 4 hours. There are only about 250 live in China. Elephants are prone to skin diseases because of their lack of hair, so they need to bathe regularly. Asian elephants have been listed as endangered species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) since 1997. To save this valuable species,the Wild Elephant Valley was built in Xishuangbanna. Its the largest Asian elephant reserve in China. The researchers selected a group of them to track(跟踪) and research. They try to help Asian elephants breed and protect their homes. Now there are about 300 Indian elephants. Sika deer is named for its red-brown coat, orderly distribution of spots of white spots, like plum blossoms. Wild sika deer are highly endangered animals in China, with a total number of less than 1000.North China subspecies and Shanxi subspecies have been extinct. There are less than 100 in Jiangxi. Northeast Asian species may be extinct. In October 1981, in order to protect Sika deer, an endangered species, the peoples government of Jiangxi Province built the Taohongling Sika Deer Reserve in Jiangxi Province to protect the breeding environment of Sika deer. After scientists efforts, the domesticated population was later released, and now there are about 200.
