    4、tober. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage - I carried an 85 -pounder back last year. This year, it was hard to tell whether my p

    5、rize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately, we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. Im unsure now why I thought

    6、 forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time. With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwi

    7、lling to quit, my nose briefly prevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it,like a cork(软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders. My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. Im going to set it down, now, I said,

    8、 and with Jason helping to support its weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pre

    9、ssed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. I cant get it out! I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space. Para.1 I was stuck for five or six minutes though it felt much longer. 1. My head span dizzily. 2. I strug

    10、gled aimlessly and helplessly. 3. Despite my efforts, I had to admit it was so tough for me to do so but I had no option but to gasp for air. 4. Who knows my strength was running out, my brains numb and my confidence losing? 5. “Dont panic. Lets rise to the challenge,” Jason, a resourceful and respo

    11、nsible boy, proposed and exclaimed, “Dad, come here. We need your help.” 6. Fortunately, father turned up in time. 7. “Should we call for professional help?” asked Jason, though he knew it wasnt fathers character. 8. “Think positively. Why not make the most of our potential?” replied dad. 9. He grab

    12、bed the opening of the pumpkin and did his best to break it into two with two hands. 10. In a split second, a creak broke out overhead. But what did I see? My mother was filming all the way. Para.2 That video was posted online the Monday before Halloween. 1. To my surprise, soon my video was followe

    13、d by a sea of likes, my mailbox flooded with similar stories. 2. I cant imagine a nasty experience turned out to be the most memorable. 3. Yes, I should look on the bright side of everything and the key lay in attitude. 4. A little embarrassed as I was, a wave of warmth welled up inside. 5. Then a good idea flashed across my mind. 6. “Why not take advantage of this opportunity to share stories online to choose the funniest?” 7. I told Jason, jumping with joy. 8. “Amazing! Lets call it Pumpkins Writing Competition” Jason giggled.
