However, the first Europeans visited there in 1770, and the first permanent European settlement in Australia was established there in 1788. This settlement was a

Criminals were sent to Sydney either in prison or after their prison sentence in England was completed many of these criminals were petty crime like theft or robbery, including a number of women and children. While for decades many of the newcomers to Australia were either con

    5、victs or their descendants, in time they were joined by hundreds of thousands of other Brits lured by the promise of farmland and a new start. The Sydney Opera House itself is one of the most iconic architectural structures in the world, designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon (1918-2008) in 1957, a

    6、nd is meant to look like either seashells or the sails of a ship. As Utzons original design was little more than a preliminary sketch, it took a number of years for the Opera House to be completed while architects and engineers tried to figured be completed. However, when the building was finally fi

    7、nished and opened to the public in 1973, it was immediately considered a masterpiece of modern design. In the middle of the main street sits the unique city tower, which together with the old buildings along the street makes a beautiful photo of Pingyao.
